Why It Is Important: “It’s the simplest tools that can make our day-to-day work so much easier. Sometimes, we need to show our clients or each other internally how to do something inside of an application. Loom makes this easier by video recording a screen capture and the front-facing camera with audio. These quick videos helps us tremendously with collaboration and training. Wistia recently came out with a similar version of Loom called Soapbox. We’ll be checking that out too.” Editor’s note: check out ViewedIt from Vidyard too.”

Hi, Jamie! Very good list. I needed something like this for 2018 so that I know what to target in the future blogs I create. As for now, I’m comfortable using SiteGround affiliate network and it’s pretty good actually. Their hosting service is pretty much the best considered its price. I’ve tried others but SiteGround stands out. I’ll also try new affiliate networks, something from the list you have just provided. I think Amazon is too saturated at the moment, and I need a better network. 2018 will be interesting indeed.
Brin Chartier, an expert digital marketer, and SEO content creator, loves the free SEO tool SEOQuake. She says, “I love a good browser extension, and SEOquake is the best free SEO tool for instant SEO metrics on any website or SERP. I can instantly pull an on-page SEO audit for myself or competitors, and the SERP overlay feature is an awesome visualization of key page metrics that I can export to CSV & share with my team. This tool saves me hours of manual work that I can use to actually move the needle creating SEO optimized content instead.”
I am new to this line of work and seem to run into “Longtail Pro” a lot. I noticed that “Longtail Pro” is not mentioned in your tool list (unless I missed it), therefore I was wondering if you recommend it. SEMrush is definitely a priority on my list of tools to purchase, but I’m not sure if I want to (or need to) spend money on “Longtail Pro” or any other premium SEO tool for that matter.

For the purposes of our testing, we standardized keyword queries across the five tools. To test the primary ad hoc keyword search capability with each tool, we ran queries on an identical set of keywords. From there we tested not only the kinds of data and metrics the tool gave, but how it handled keyword management and organization, and what kind of optimization recommendations and suggestions the tool provided.
Already a few months back, but Moz launched a local product to compete in the fast-growing SMB market. In a previous post, we’ve suspected to see Moz move in the SEO enterprise market, but this didn’t seem to really happen. Their tools a great, but a lot of folks don’t think that they are exceptional, meaning other tools couldn’t provide a certain task or data in a similar way. Moz local looks solid and will compete with Yext, Placable and a bunch of other local submission services, which we’ll cover soon.
